Anthony Gomes Set to Release "Music Is The Medicine"

Anthony Gomes new album, "Music Is The Medicine," will be released August 8th on the Adrenaline label and distributed by ADA/Warner Brothers. He started 3 years ago with a commitment to write and record a collection of songs that would be of the highest quality in all regards. Gomes reports that he's met the standard.

The label is running a promotional package called “5 for 50“.  Purchase 5 copies of  “Music Is The Medicine” for $50 and buyers will receive a bonus album of unreleased original material entitled “Long Way Home”.  This second disc, recorded during the Medicine sessions, includes songs like Mississippi Hurricane and Purple Whiskey Sack. There will be a limited production of 5000 copies and each disc will include a numbered certificate. 

Also Gomes will be relaunching his site http://www.anthonygomes.com on Friday August 4th, where fans can pre-order the 5 for 50 promotion and other items from the online store.

Search For The Perfect Tone Released

Limited Edition versions of the Paul Reed Smith, Bob Taylor and Robert Godin episodes of "The Search for the Perfect Guitar Tone" are now available on DVD from documentary producer No Island Media.

The Limited Edition episodes are fully authorized by the manufacturers and each episode has been produced in close co-operation with each innovator. Extended versions are 51 minutes each and include:

1.  INSIDE PRS - a documentary photographed and directed by the Clio award-winning David Insley, Director of Photography for such massively successful cult films as Hairspray, Polyester, Cry Baby, and Pink Flamingos, and is a DP with over 300 commercial shoots in his portfolio.

2.  BOB TAYLOR: AMERICAN LUTHIER - a documentary profile of Bob Taylor and Taylor Guitars, shot in high definition.

3.  ROBERT GODIN: GUITAR CLINIC - a theater presentation by the founder/innovator behind Godin, Seagull, Art&Lutherie, Simon & Patrick and Norman guitars.

The Limited Edition DVDs are limited to a print run of 2,000 and retail for 24.99. The Extended episodes will also be included in "The Search For The Perfect Guitar Tone : Complete Collection."

Robert Cray Readies 'Live From Across The Pond,' First Live Album in 30+ Year Career, set for September 12 Release

Robert Cray is famous for touring more than six months out of every year. Yet in his 30+-year career, there has never been a live album — until the imminent release of The Robert Cray Band: Live From Across The Pond, that is. The two-CD live set was recorded over the course of seven shows in May 2006 at London’s Royal Albert Hall while Cray was on tour with Eric Clapton.

Still on the road together in Europe (and the only rockers to play Moscow’s Red Square in 2006), the Cray Band will tour with Clapton in the U.S. once again on the heels of the live album’s September 12 release. The U.S. Clapton dates commence on September 16 in St. Paul, and continue through October 23 in Miami. A second leg of American dates to be announced shortly will cover the Western states in February 2006. Cray will also tour with Buddy Guy and as a headliner during the August and early September.

The album marks the inaugural release for Cray’s new independent label, Nozzle Records, which will be distributed by Vanguard Records. It was mixed by Grammy® Award winner Don Smith (Rolling Stones, Ry Cooder, Miles Davis.)

The Robert Cray Band: Live From Across The Pond contains live versions of Cray classics alongside newly recorded gems like “Poor Johnny,” “I’m Walkin’,” and his song about a young soldier watching the horror unfold in Iraq, “Twenty.”

The album spotlights Cray’s stellar guitar playing along with the expertise of his long-time band: Jim Pugh, keyboards; bassist Karl Sevareid; and drummer Kevin Hayes. Together they have played more than 1,000 dates.

“It’s like we know how to play with one another, we support one another on solos, and we work hard to make the shows sound good,” Cray explains. “We can make a song become something different from what it was the night before. It gives us the opportunity to stretch something out and then come back together. And those things make playing a lot of fun.”

Commenting on his first live album in 30 years, Cray added: “Fans have asked us for a live record for a long time. Many attempts have been made, but the seven shows at Royal Albert made it possible to do it right.”

John Scofield Get's His Jam On

John Scofield, one of the most prolific jazz guitarists alive today, has found a new outlet outside of his jazz rooots; the jam band circuit. Lately, Scofield has been playing with "Bonaroo" bands like Gov't Mule, The Dead, Soulive, and now with Medeski, Martin and Wood. Sco has teamed with the trio to create a forthcoming album that the new group will back during a round of November and December tour dates.

The new album by Medeski Scofield Martin and Wood, "Out Louder", will be released at the end of September 2006. This will be the second time the quartet has laid down tracks together. Back in 1998 Scofield asked Medeski, Martin and Wood to play on his album "A Go-Go", where MMW were essentially sidemen. On "Out Louder" Scofield submerged himself into the band, as the four musicians worked together as full partners on the songwriting and recording.

Scofield will be on out the road with his new group with a half-dozen dates in mid-November that are in the Northeast, followed by seven early December shows throughout the Midwest.

Yo! Get Ya Phish CD and DVD Heya

Phish is set to release a live CD and DVD this summer from their '04 show in Brooklyn's Keyspan Park. "Live in Brooklyn" will ship on July 11 as a three-CD set and a two-DVD package. It includes covers of Edgar Winter's Frankenstein and the theme from "2001: A Space Odyssey."

Frampton Mends A 25-Year Split

After a nearly 25-year split, guitarist Peter Frampton is returning to A&M Records, with which he enjoyed his biggest successes in the 1970s. The artist has inked a deal with A&M and New Door Records for the Sept. 12 release of the all-instrumental album "Fingerprint," which is the follow-up to 2003's self-released "Now."

The Texas Cannonball Live At The Electric Ballroom

The Shout factory announced a reissue of Freddy King Live at the Electric Ballroom, 1974, which includes two acoustic songs and a five-minute interview at the long-defunct KRLD-FM.

Originally issued in 1996 on Black Top, the CD has been out of print for years – which is a shame, because it neatly balances his Delta blues roots with the gritty urban sound that later wowed fans at Atlanta's Electric Ballroom.
