Montreal, Monday, February 12, 2007 – true aficionados of acoustic, classical, archtop and manouche guitars will be treated this summer with the 1st Montreal Guitar Show, an event devoted to instruments crafted by an exceptional breed of luthiers from July 6 to 8, as part of the Montreal Musician and Musical Instrument Show (MMMIS) and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. It will be the biggest guitar show in Canada.
The event is dedicated exclusively to handcrafted guitars and will showcase the masterpieces of several of the world’s greatest luthiers. Given last year’s success of the guitar luthier segment of the MMMIS, this year the MMMIS and the Festival decided to get involved in promoting these artists-artisans. Guitarists will have a unique opportunity to see, touch, try out, and even purchase the instruments at the event.
Guitarists will have a chance to meet luthiers from Quebec, the rest of Canada, the United States, South America and Europe, including the true crème de la crème and young, upcoming stars. Names such as Mario Beauregard, Bill Comins, Rick Davis, Sergei de Jonge, Charles Fox, Oskar Graf, Michael Greenfield, Peter Hopkins, Michael Lewis, John Monteleone, Tom Ribbecke, Jean Rompré, Ervin Somogyi and others come to mind.
Organizers will be going all out to ensure a fantastic experience for guitar lovers. For example, the Montreal Guitar Show will be setting up private studios to provide optimal conditions for trying out instruments. The MGS will also be offering a series of meeting sessions and free workshops on the luthier’s art and the art of guitar playing.
The event runs from July 6 to 8, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Montreal.
